Women and their children caught in a cycle of dysfunction and abuse are given the opportunity to experience recovery, hope, and a promising future. House of Promise is a turning point to a fresh start!
Poverty. Addiction. Dysfunction.
House of Promise is a one year program, with an option for a second year, which gives women and women with children a chance for recovery from the bondage of addiction, and hope for a future. In the first year, women are immersed in the word of God and work through Teen Challenge curriculum to find answers and healing from the abandonment and abuse which often times led them into the cycle of addiction. They also join in the work that it takes to run a kitchen, daycare and upkeep of the building and grounds. Classes are taught on daily living, which include Parenting, Finance, and Life Skills. In the second year, we offer transitional living. The women are provided with an apartment and assimilate into the surrounding communities by finding a job, learning to budget and take care of themselves and their children with the covering and structure of the program. During this time daycare is provided for their children in our Noah's Ark Daycare, where the children learn about their Creator and the love He has for them. Help is given to those women who want to go on from House of Promise and enter the ministry themselves, whether it is a career with Teen Challenge or a YWAM DTS. A mentor is assigned to each women entering the program to "walk beside them," praying with them and supporting them on their journey.
I grew up living a “semi-normal” Christian life with a loving and supportive family. Somewhere along the road I lost sight of God and pushed Him away from my heart. A series of events and turmoil that occurred in my life caused me to inevitably turn to alcohol, drugs and self-destruction relations with men. I bit the “bait of Satan” for about ten years until I broke down to the ground begging God to forgive me, to save me and deliver me out of this darkness and back into the light, HIS light. Exactly one year later God opened the doors for me to receive help here at House of Promise. I am so thankful for this place I call my home — my save haven filled with amazing staff, women and children that have all become my sisters through Christ. Most importantly, it’s a home filled and flourishing with Gods love and presence. I’ve seen with my own eyes and felt with my own heart the miracles God is capable of performing, His work in my life takes my breath away because of how beautiful and merciful His love is for me.
Note: Marisa, after completing the Teen Challenge curriculum in 2013 and then another year of transition working in Montrose, Colorado, joined the Teen Challenge staff at New Hope House, our teen girls’ center in Utah. She's excited to use her experiences and training to help others!
